Cobra Reinventing The CB Radio
Cobra Reinventing The CB Radio
The cb radio has had its day in the spot light; we used it through the seventies and the eighties. We kept track of the police radar traps and the traffic on the highways. The cb radio was the original social network allowing the user to meet new people and become friends without meeting them or using a phone. What happened to the cb radio? The cb did not fade away it was and is an industry standard for anyone that makes their living driving the highways or offroading. Today we have more technology than we know what to do with. We rely on our cell phones, internet and satellites for communication. We have learned from experience how fragile these technologies are during a catastrophe. The cb is self contained and has the ability to transmit and receive, this can make the all the difference when you need help and are in an emergency situation. Make no mistake low tech wins when communications break down, every time our communications go down people turn to Ham radio and cb radio operators for help.
The new cobra 29 LTD BT CB Radio brings rock solid low tech citizens band radio and combines it with high tech blue tooth capabilities, yes that’s right you can receive and make phone calls on your cell phone through this new cb.
Don’t stop reading yet! Cobra also added NOAA whether stations to this unit. This tool has it all in one package. The cb is still your first line of defense when it comes to traffic jams. Channel 19 has been the channel of choice for truckers around the United States. They are first on scene to report accidents, traffic jams, radar traps ECT. Who does not need a cb? That’s a good question, in my opinion everyone should take advantage of our right to use a citizens band radio. Have fun with it teach your kids how to use it, take it on your next road trip, turn off the DVD player and get to know America!

We did our test on the road. We took a road trip from Wyoming to Arizona; this 2500 miles trip was full of adventure. We were pulling a 20 ft car hauler with our suburban through Colorado with Snow falling so hard there was only about 200 foot visibility. We cranked up the CB and found out just when to get off the freeway to avoid the pile ups. The trip was going fine when we started up the Raton Pass about Midnight on our way out of Colorado; we kept in touch with the over the road truckers that warned us to slow down from 70 mph to 30 mph. at mile marker 4 three cars spun around in front of us on Black Ice. We followed suit and so did an 18 wheeler behind us jack knifing and slamming into our trailer. We called the highway patrol on our cell phone through our Cobra (sounded great). We still were blocking the Pass and not able to get all the vehicles out of the road, I jumped on the Cobra and put out a warning to all 18 wheelers on the pass who pulled over north and south to slow cars down to avoid another accident.
We totaled the car hauler but it was still towable. Made it through New Mexico and down to Phoenix to pick up our FJ40 project. I had three of my boys with me who took turns talking on the CB; they loved it and did not even crank up the video games!
I give the new cobra 29 LTD BT CB Radio 2 thumbs up! What are you waiting for go out and get one, I know I am going to get two more so I don’t have to move it from one car to another.
