Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Making Firebird Raceway Debut
Series’ Season Ends & Champions to be Crowned Saturday, Dec. 11; Rockstar Energy Lucas Oil Challenge Cup with more than $125,000 in Prize Money Set for Sunday, Dec. 12
Firebird International Raceway has long been the metropolitan Phoenix destination for watching the world’s fastest dragsters and drag boats as well as the most powerful and imposing Monster Trucks.
Now a new chapter in Firebird International Raceway’s proud racing history is about to be written – written in dirt that is! This Dec. 10-12, the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series proudly makes its Firebird debut on the facility’s newly renovated off-road track.
“We’re excited about bringing off-road racing back to Firebird,” said Franki Buckman, the track’s executive vice president. “Beginning with the December race, our newly renovated off-road track will be home to two Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series events each year.”
The critically important Dec. 10-12 race event closes out the 2010 Lucas Oil Off Road Series season. Champions will be crowned during the season’s final point’s race on Saturday, Dec. 11. Many of the world’s top off-road racers will compete to see who will reign supreme in the following classes:
· Pro 4 Unlimited – full-size 4WD vehicles, V8 engines, 800 + HP
· Pro 2 Unlimited- full-size 2WD vehicles, V8 engines, 800 + HP
· Pro Light Unlimited – compact/mid-sized 2WD vehicles, four-cylinder engines, 300 HP
· Super Lite – mid-size 2WD, two seat, 200 HP
· Pro Buggy Unlimited – 1650 cc water-cooled four-cylinder and VW Type 1 engines
· Limited Buggy – 1600 cc VW Type 1 engine
· Karts JR1 / JR2 / Modified – Single seat, custom-built mini race trucks, Drivers 8 – 15 yrs old
· UTVs – includes Unlimited UTV (heavily modified UTV up to 800cc) and SR1 UTV: (heavily modified Yamaha Rhino utilizing a Yamaha R1 1000cc engine)
But the action doesn’t end once the champions have been crowned. On Sunday, Dec. 12, the competitors will again take to the track, competing for more than $125,000 during the Rockstar Energy Lucas Oil Challenge Cup!
Gates will open at 9 am each day, with action kicking off with a practice session at 11 am followed by the start of Pro 4 Unlimited qualifying at 12:45 pm on Friday, Dec. 10. Weekend passes good for all three days of racing action are available for $50 for adults and $15 for kids.
Here is breakdown of individual ticket prices for the three-day event:
Friday, Dec. 10 – general admission $10; Tribal members $5; kids 5-and-under free
Saturday, Dec. 11 & Sunday, Dec. 12 – general admission $30; Tribal members $15; Kids 6 -12 $10; kids 5-and-under free
