MOROC EVENT #2 Southern Missouri Offroad Ranch.
The 1st weekend in April and its time for the 2 event of the MOROC extreme offroad racing series which is held at the Southern Missouri Offroad Ranch (SMORR). This year has been very wet with over 35″ of precipitation and this affected the courses and the building of new ones. None the less the promoter, teams, and staff drudge on to pull off another fine show for the crowd. The park itself is beautiful with the nice new gate house, shower house, and the trails are some of the best in the country.
As day one starts the 1st of the super modified teams pushes the throttle down and tears through the course at the first obstacle which is a 5 ‘ vertical wall. As the front tires crest the peak the rear grabs and over goes the rig onto its top. As rescue comes on to right the upside down rig the stock and modified try their hands at course one. This course also takes it toll on rigs with one loosing a front ball joint and tire and having to be pulled out of the deep ravine he had fallen into.
The courses continue to cause havoc on the rigs throughout the weekend with only 5 rigs out of the 30 not receiving any major damage. The rollovers were in abundance and teams made spectacular efforts to finish these tough courses. As day one ends the times are close through out all classes and the teams are busy repairing and prepping for day 2.
Day 2 brings 4 courses at the teams. These courses are long, tight, and twisty through the woods with short vertical climbs and long straights. These course demand the teams to drive their rigs in excess of 65 mph and maneuver these giant chunks of metal with finesse through the trees and obstacles. These courses are a timed based event. Each team will run 10 courses and the fastest time wins. The races are very spectator friendly and have entertainment for the whole family. If you get a chance to attend one of these races it is highly recommended. See you in May for event 3 of the MOROC series at the Superlift Park in Hot Springs, AR.
