WE ROCK WESTERN NATIONALS ROUND TWO CEDER CITY
The second stop for the US Western Nationals was held in Cedar City, Utah
with some of the sickest courses we have seen since ‘Put Up or Shut Up’.
Just like every other event this year, there was at least one course that
just annihilated competitors all weekend long. This time it was A3.
Thirty-six
competitors attempted this obstacle and only 9 scored better than a 38.
Sometimes I think Lil Rich is a little twisted, but he always
makes with some great entertainment!
Day one of competition saw some amazing action in all the classes. Bruce
Zeller of Mad Rocks Racing jumped into an early lead in the unlimited class
with a perfect score on the untamable course A3. Zeller never looked back
and kept his lead all the way through day one. Jason Paulie was right behind
Zeller at the completion of day one only trailing by five points. Cody
Waggoner finished third, one point behind Paulie. In the legends class, lead
changes were happening all day long. Becca Webster ended up on top with “The
Ice Man”, Dean Bulloch in second and Jeff Mello right on their heels. The run
of the day hands down had to go to Terry Degan of DesertFab Motorsports.
Terry’s run on A3 was nothing short of Wicked!! No pun intended. On the
initial climb that was claiming all the competitors, Terry began to roll.
Then his foot found that all too familiar skinny pedal. He performed a
perfect pirouette on his rear tires and ended back on all fours. Sick
Terry!! Let’s hope that you got that all out of your system now, and have
moved on. Just kidding Terry!!
Going into the Shootout on day two, Bruce Zeller held onto his lead followed
by Shannon Campbell and Jason Scherer. Campbell had a perfect run and also
cleared the bonus line. This moved him into lead and left almost no room for
error for Zeller. Zeller failed to make the bonus line but was able to clear
enough gates to give him the win only six points ahead of Campbell. Congrats
to Bruce Zeller on his first win of the Season.
In the Shootout for the Legends Class Jeff Mello rolled through final gate
and ended up finishing the course upside down. Becca Webster in the Redbull
Rockher rig had a solid run and finished first ahead of Dean Bullock and
Jeff Mello.
This is Becca’s first win in WE-Rock. I am sure we will see a lot more from
her this season.
I need to give a HUGE pat on the back to Troy Bailey in the Modified Stock
class. On course C3, Troy blew out his right front tire and completely ripped
the coil over off his Maxxis sponsored Jeep. Troy was able to weld his coil over
back on and put on a new tire on, all before he had to start his next course.
Troy
went on to win the Modified Stock class. I think that is a victory well
earned.
Great job Man!!
Another great weekend put on by the Kliens. A little hot but a lot of fun as
always. Next event is the Eastern US Nationals in Jellico, Tennessee July
14-16.
See Ya’ll there!!!
