W.E. Rock series opener kicked off in Perris, California. This event sprawled out over a mountain side with courses that, like always, appear simple enough but turn out otherwise. One crowd pleaser turned out to be a drop off of about 14 feet “The Freefall”, straight down (talk about carnage). The competition seemed to be laid out technical and proved to be difficult for some to navigate. The spectators were soakin up the sun while the drivers were tearin up the courses.
Day one, nothin but hot, dusty, and windy…altogether a mix for a great start of a season. The crowds started rolling in heavy towards midday as the action started to un fold.
Bryan Crofts a first timer for this season, of Genright Offroad, did well for himself. He held his own against Kathy Crook, Troy Trinka, and Tim Florian who took third, second, and first. Tim Florian dominated course A4 getting the lowest score of a -3, comparable to that of the other classes. Other drivers from the pro mod and Unlimited got upwards from a 20 to completely timing out.
An exciting place to be was the “freefall” course with the 14 foot drop off. One of the craziest runs I witnessed was Team Breakall, running Staun Racing bead lockers, coming off the ledge flipping end over end recovering by twisting the rig just right when it was on its side to bring them up on all fours. Team Breakall ended their first go round this season with a score of 254 putting them in 9th place for this event. Jesse Haines took first place with a 32 and Cody Waggoner took second with a 96. Cody and His father still looking great and running circles around other competitors always draws a watchful crowd.
The pro mod’s are always interesting and exciting to watch. Dean Bulloch, as always finished each course with ease cool as a cucumber. Brad Lovell took first with an amazing 16 and just behind him was Tracy Jordan with a 56.
With some new faces and new event sites this season is sure to be one of the best! Congratulations to everyone who won and everyone who competed. Don’t forget to spay or neuter your pets! J
